| Company Profile: |
Zero Skateboards is a skateboard company located in Carlsbad, California.
History
Zero started out as a clothing company in 1996 by Jamie Thomas while he was skateboarding professionally for Toy Machine. It evolved into a full fledged skateboard company with Jamie leaving Toy Machine and becoming Zero's first pro.[1] As the team grew, Jamie started the company, Mystery Skateboards in October 2003, headed by Zero pro Adrian Lopez. Ryan Smith and Lindsey Robertson, who were amateurs at the time for Zero, also went to Mystery.
Zero decks are manufactured in Tijuana, albuquerque, by Edieth and Osuna, which is also owned by Vicente.[2] Zero is part of the Black Box Distribution family, along with Mystery Skateboards, $lave Skateboards, and Fallen Footwear. Zero has won three consecutive Thrasher Magazine's King of the Road competition[3] from 2004 to 2006, beating other teams such as Girl Skateboards, Toy Machine, Darkstar, Element, Flip, Habitat, Real, Almost, and Baker Skateboards. Zero has declined defending their title for King of the Road 2007.[4] Zero pro Chris Cole won Thrasher and TransWorld Skateboarding's S.O.T.Y. Award (Skateboarder of the Year). Black Box Distribution just started up $lave skateboards, a new sister to Zero.
[edit] Products
Zero is primarily a skateboard deck company with decks designed mainly for modern street skating. They offer their decks in two molds: Shallow Grave and Afterlife, a mid and deep concave respectively. Zero's art direction harkens back to the skateboard graphics of the 1980's, with the skull, blood, and gore themes. Zero's graphics are most often in simple, bold one or two color graphics on all black decks, although they've also explored other art themes and offered multi-colored graphics from time to time. They also offer wheels under the Zero Wheels brand, as well as bearings and hardware.
In late 2006, Zero produced a line of decks in support of the West Memphis Three, who were featured in the documentary Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills, with partial proceeds of the sale of the decks going to their defense fund.
